The mission of Coordinated School Health Program (CSH) is to improve student health and their capacity to learn through the support of families, communities, and schools. Funding for CSH is provided by the Tennessee State Legislature through the Department of Education. Matching funds and community resources are necessary to help schools solve complex health issues. The benefits of the program include: 1) reduced absenteeism, 2) fewer behavior problems in the classroom, and 3) improved student health and performance. Special thanks to Governor Phil Bredesen and the Tennessee State Legislature for making Tennessee the first state in the nation to mandate Coordinated School Health statewide.

What is a Coordinated School Health?

A coordinated school health program (CSH) model consists of eight interactive components based on a model created by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A core group of KnoxCounty administrators representing the eight areas of CSH and the System Wide Health Advisory Council guide the efforts. HealthySchool Teams provide leadership for healthy initiatives in schools. CSH staff includes a Coordinator, a PANTSS Educator, and an Administrative Assistant.
